Outdoor Workouts/Playground Exercises -

I train most of my clients at The Joey Atlas Studio in Ponte Vedra, Florida. For the past several years I've been doing one or two of my own outdoor workouts on a playground.

Yes, you read that right, on a playground built for kids to play on. In 2006 I started taking some of my clients out of the fitness studio and began introducing them to some of these fun & effective playground workouts. Every single one of them has LOVED these training sessions. At first thought one might think, "Work out on the playground? How are we going to do that?"

And after one workout they are crazy about how awesome it is to do this type of workout. The exercises are endless. There are so many variations of push ups, chin ups, dips, sit ups, step ups, agility drills that the workouts can be modified for de-conditioned new beginners or structured to be challenging for even the most 'seasoned fitness veterans'.

Occasionally, I'll add in some rubber band or medicine ball exercises for more variety and mind/muscle stimulation.

Take a look around your neighborhood, find a playground and go do some simple exercises - use your imagination, you'll love it. If you can't figure out what to do - just stay tuned. We will be adding the Ultimate Playground Workout to this site in the near future.

Some of the benefits of this kind of workout are:

1 - You don't need a gym or health club - it removes one of the biggest excuses for missing workouts, because even if you travel you can always find a playground.

2 - If you have kids - you can show them by example how a playground can be fun for everybody while teaching them the valuable lesson of taking care of your fitness as a parent who wants to be around to see the kids grow up.

3 - If you are a trainer - adding outdoor/playground workouts to your 'toolbox' will make you a better trainer who stands out from the rest - resulting in more referrals and a better business.
